Sea-Otter
Beneteau Idylle 15.50
Pictures

The first 12 pictures were taken during the survey which was conducted by Lloyds Maritime Inspections

The bottom wasn't bad at all there were no sign of osmosis, even after we scaled off all the gel coat. Some minor repairs had been done and we have to redo those repairs. It is typically damage from anchoring too close to reefs or so.

As you can see, the interior wasn't too fresh after many charter seasons. The wood on the lower parts of all the showers was rotten, most probably due to malfunctioning shower bilge pumps.

The walls and ceiling padding was also worn and damaged in some areas. It had come loose from the glue and the repair was simply done by fitting screws with large washers.

On the left, here is an interior from a Vauquiez 48, I just want to show you the light type of woodwork we will fit on doors and list work in Sea-Otter. This is white ash. We prefer a light interior instead of the usual teak. If one is sitting in a cellar most of the time then it can at least be a nice and light atmosphere in the boat.

To the right, a really nice hull shape!

The left picture shows the Moorings interior and to the right a standard Beneteau interior.

On the left, you see the three watertight bulkheads, at least the position of them where they shall be fitted inside. Between the owners cabin and the salon the door will be watertight as well.

I have copied and scaled down these pictures from the original 1:20 scale.

This first picture explains itself, it was the crew quarters right up in the bow, now we will make a store room for extra sails ropes and fenders plus all the other thousand things you don't carry in the salon. There is also space enough for a little workshop.

We have placed the watermaker here, as it became the best space for it and gave the best access for service of the unit.

This is the area where the two double cabins were before, we make it the owners cabin including a little bathtub in a mini bathroom.

There will be ample space for The two of us and lots of storage places, nice large lockers, you can't have too many of them.

We have finally built this aaccording to the original design. On the new pics pages you can see the bathtub and the sink. The latter is of special design and the material is "synthetic china".

The problem is that the engine is situated in the middle of the salon. We have again changed the plans for the sofa area. To open up the space we have changed to an L-shaped sofa instead of the original U-shaped. We have constructed a new "floor to ceiling" cupboard for galley storage, as there were not enough space below the work-bench and not really deep cupboards above and in front of the work-bench. The freezer(s), yes, there are two smaller ones instead of one big. But for daily us we have installed a normal fridge below the galley work-bench. The fwd part of the engine box (which raise 30 cm above floorlevel) is hinged on the fwd part and is lifted in the back and folds forwards. If more people onboard, we can use folding chairs at the table end.

The last picture shows the navplace close to the companionway and beside it was originally a locker for wet clothes with drainage on the floor. It has been the place for the dryer/tumbler. The storage space behind the seat is filled with all the electronics. The Victron inverter/charger, the power manager, chargers, transformers, all the busbars and circuitbreakers.

The cockpit locker is really huge and will swallow a great deal, I think it will be full very quickly anyway. Despite we have placed the diesel generator and the boiler here, there is still a lot of space for other things.

Behind the boiler and behind the bulkhead you find the Webasto heater.
